A memoir of Lt. Cecil Lerrier Giffard, who was born in Guernsey in 1868 &, following service in the Militia, was commissioned in the 58th (2nd Bn. Northampstonshire Regt.) in 1890. He served in India with his regiment until KiA by a sniper's bullet during the Tirah campaign on 6th Nov. 1897 with the 48th (1st Northamptonshire). Includes extracts from his diaries & letters in India including the Tirah campaign. Orig. half white morocco boards & red cloth sides, gilt title to front panel, rebacked in matching calf with red leather letting label. VG thus & rare. See illustrations on our website.

The author was a Special Reserve officer of the Northamptonshire Regt., mobilised with the 1st Bn. (2nd Bde., 1st Div., I Corps), he gives a full account - based on his diary - of mobilisation, embarkation & arrival in France, Retreat from Mons, Aisne, Chemin-des-Dames & 1st Ypres when he was wounded 23/10/14. Roll of bn. officers, noting almost 100% casualties. Orig. wheat cloth VG, title & regimental badge blocked on front board. See illustration on our website.
